Cyber Security and Digital Privacy in the Dental Office

As the dental field becomes increasingly digital and online, patients treatment is improved with faster referrals and more accurate information that can be manipulated in ways not possible in the past.  However, such digital interconnection comes with hidden risk – hacks and attacks on digital security, with the loss of private patient information.  Ransomware attacks have been rising in frequency, with some dental practices in our area affected.

Coronation Dental Specialty Group has numerous digital and online defenses to safeguard our private patient information and practice databases.  Along with normal precautions such as firewalls and password protection, Coronation has adopted SafeReferral for encrypted and secure transfer of patient information between our practice and dental offices.

OSOMS LogoDr. Ian Furst was instrumental in working with our IT professionals in setting up the digital systems at Coronation, and has intimate knowledge of the complexities defenses that have been put in place to guard against cyber attacks at our office.  Dr. Furst also has the honour of discussing Continuity Planning and Cyber Security with the Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.  He will address Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons from around the province and speak about different aspects of Cyber Security and safeguarding information, pertaining to the dental field and private patient information.
