Dr. Ian Furst Discusses Cybersecurity at the Ontario Society for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons

Dr. Ian Furst was the invited guest speaker at the recent meeting of the Ontario Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (OSOMS), discussing cybersecurity.  Dr. Furst had worked closely with the IT team that set up Coronation’s computer network, and is also a member of the Information and Communications Technology Council Nationa Cyber Security Leadership Council on Youth and Education

Coronation Dental Specialty Group takes its responsibility to protect patient privacy very seriously, and that responsibility extends to protecting its computers, servers, network, and private digital information (which includes patient and financial information).  Dr. Furst’s lecture discussed the methods used to keep our network secure, ranging from simple password protection to state of the art firewalls.  He also discussed how to minimize data loss in the unlikely event that the network lost information or went offline.  Using hot backups, Coronation would minimize any data loss and disruption to patient appointments and private information.

Dr. Furst’s talk was well-received and he answered many questions about how other practices could improve their own network security.  We are fortunate to have someone with his expertise who is helping to safeguard Coronation’s private information.
