Cracked Teeth

Services  >  Endodontics  > Cracked Teeth

Teeth can be cracked through normal wear and tear throughout life.  Other problems which can cause cracks including clenching or grinding of teeth, or chewing on hard foods or objects.

Cracked teeth may exhibit pain on biting, or with hot or cold temperatures.  Pain may also be constant, or it could be intermittent.

Unlike a broken bone, a crack in a tooth will not heal, and may get worse.  While the tooth may be saveable, the outcome will depend on the severity and location of the crack.  A combination of clinical and microscopic examination and x-rays will be used by your endodontist to evaluate whether the tooth is cracked, and whether it can be saved.
