Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are dental specialists trained in surgery involving dental implants, teeth, jaws, and face.
Following 4 years of dental schools, the route to become an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon involves 4-6 additional years of training in a hospital setting. Rotations are completed in the medical specialties of anesthesia, internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, trauma surgery, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery. Many surgeons will go on to complete Fellowships in Trauma, Orthognathic Surgery, or Cosmetic Surgery.
